iDoubt: Questions about Faith Results

We received 115 questions online and on index cards. Here are the four most common questions that will be addressed in each sermon:

Sept. 4- Are Bible Stories Like Jonah and the Fish and Noah and the Ark Really True?

Sept. 11- Why Does God Allow Suffering?

Sept. 18- What Does the Bible Really Teach about Heaven and Hell?

Sept. 25- How do I Know if I Have Enough Faith?

The goal of each sermon is to fairly present two opposing views on each question, and then the speaker will humbly share his view. Unthoughtful, easy answers are out of date.

Many people have given up on God and the church because they have received simple, incomplete answers to their questions that actually do more harm than good. This is a chance to acknowledge doubts, think about some of the big questions of faith and maybe, just maybe, give some people hope who have given up on church.

iDoubt: Questions about Faith

iDoubt: Questions about Faith will be our September Big Day Sermon Series at Stonybrook. This weekend, we will collect questions about faith from the congregation, pick the four most common, and answer each of them in a sermon series September 4-25. This graphic will be used on our 10,000 piece mailer.

Here is the sermon series blurb:

Many of us have questions about our faith, but we’re afraid to ask them because we feel guilty, or we’re afraid of being judged. Well, that is about to change!

Once you submit your question this week, the pastoral staff will determine the four most common questions and preach a sermon dealing with each one. The goal of each sermon will be to fairly represent varying opinions, present biblical answers where possible, and humbly offer an answer to the question.

In this series of sermons, we’ll acknowledge our doubts, discover some new answers, and experience a new sense of freedom in our faith!

I’ve been thinking of this iDoubt concept for over a year and had planned to author a book in the future with the title about wrestling with faith and doubt. I decided that the Apple spoof title is not what I would want for a book, but I think it will work great as a sermon series title.
