I wrote a sermon for Memorial Day 2009 that would be a relevant Thanksgiving 2010 sermon as well.
As we come out of the Great Recession, many people are in pain and know that others are in pain. Some might be wondering, “How can we be thankful in such a painful time?”
The sermon is called “Behind the Scenes”, and it approaches Psalm 22 as though it were a 3 act play. The theme is “Seeing God’s perspective while you pray painful prayers”. The central image of the sermon is pulling back a stage curtain to see what’s happening behind the scenes.
At Stonybrook, we’re in a stewardship series during November, but if you need a stand alone Thanksgiving sermon, feel free to use this manuscript and PowerPoint presentation as a resource. A high point of the sermon is a short video clip of Zig Ziglar speaking about gratitude.
